This is an electrical skills course.  We follow a textbook in this on line course by Richard J. Fowler entitled Electricity - Principles and Applications, 8th edition.  The text book is written for students just beginning their study of electricity.  No previous formal training is assumed.  Only arithmetic and basic algebra are used in explaining and solving most electrical problems. A scientific calculator will be needed to solve circuit problems.

Mastery of the material in this course will aid the student desiring a position in an occupation requiring an understanding of electricity. Mastering this material will also provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue further education in electricity and electronics.

You will have several kinds of work that you must submit to pass the course.  These include homework assignments, quizzes, exams and discussions.

You will be using the Internet to look up different subjects that we will be studying.

It is anticipated that you will spend 8- 12 hours each week on the course. 

This is a basic course in the properties, distribution and regulation of natural gas.  It is intended as an introduction to gas company employees interested in gaining a basic knowledge of the natural gas industry. No prerequisites are assumed. Field technicians and anyone else working in the field will first learn basic gas principles and terminology along with measurement and distribution methods.

The course is entirely on line and makes use of readings that focus on the handling of natural gas.  Essential topics related to positions in the gas industry that are covered: Basic gas laws, strength of materials, review of algebra/trigonometry, economics, engineering drawing, technical writing, physics, fluid mechanics, and basic electricity.

Mastery of the material in this course will aid the student desiring a position in an occupation requiring an understanding of the distribution of natural gas. 

Electrical Skills 150 applies the fundamentals from ELEC100 to electrical applications found in the electric utility industry.  The prerequisite for ELEC 150 is to have successfully completed ELEC100. 

This course is designed to be taken on line.  A handbook, “Ugly’s Electrical References”, 2020 Edition ISBN-13:978-1-284-19453-1, is available at the SUNY Broome Bookstore.

A scientific calculator will be needed to solve circuit problems.  After a review of previous circuit concepts, the course will concentrate on single and three phase circuitry and the use of transformers.  Electrical power generation and the transmission of electrical energy will be presented along with various issues that have to be considered in this industry.

Basic digital and analog circuitry is introduced including electronic components, amplification, and digital circuitry including logic gates.

Mastering this material will also provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue further education in the power industry.  Practice problems and weekly quizzes are used to help the student use and retain the concepts presented.

Cannabis 101 is a great course to really understand the science behind cannabis, how it works, the different types of cannabinoids, the types of products available, and how cannabis may help with many different ailments.

Each course within the Microsoft Office 2019 Value Suite introduces students to the basic features and functionality of Microsoft's 2019 software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Create worksheets to manage, store, organize, and analyze this information. Excel, Microsoft's powerful spreadsheet software, is the most widely-used program to handle this task. In fact, most workplaces require that new employees have a basic level of understanding of Microsoft Excel. This course will introduce you to the 2019 version of Microsoft Excel's basic functions and uses. Through hands-on lessons, you will learn numerous shortcuts to quickly and efficiently set up worksheets. It will improve your understanding and use of written communications, making you an asset in any administrative, management, or technical writer role. Within the course, you will learn research methods, audience considerations, various writing styles, drafting and revision techniques, working in a collaborative environment, and more. This course will also introduce you to a variety of media and formats, such as Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF, and the different writing standards typically required for each.

Students will start coding while learning from reading, presentations, exercises and a final project.  Includes Oracle SQL and programming in Python.  Also includes skills needed to enter the job market as an entry level Oracle programmer or Python programmer.  NOTE: This course must be taken on a PC.  MAC is not compatible.  Dual monitors are helpful but not required.  Software requirements:  PC: Windows 7 or later; latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred.  Microsoft Edge is also compatible.  Adobe Flash Player Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Software must be installed and operational before the course begins.  The instructional materials required for this course are included in the enrollment price; these are available online after payment is received.
