How Unmudl can leverage AI for Scale and Growth in 2024

Leveraging AI to optimize our learner experience, sales, support and other operations.

In February 2014, IEEE Computer Society published their 2022 report on 23 technologies that will impact our lives by 2022 (report also highlights the following technologies that will disrupt the state of the art) . Among them Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems, Data Analytics were among the mentioned technologies. IEEE CS launched their Global Student Challenge, an international challenge open to all IEEE CS members, based on the IEEE CS 2022 report that will solve a real-world issue. In 2016 while working on my undergraduate thesis on creating decision support systems for movement disorders , eventually winning the IEEE CS Challenge in 2017.

In 2022, coincidentally, OpenAI launched ChatGPT, a generative AI chatbot that has taken the world by storm. This development has resulted in major changes across organizations, leading to recent layoffs as businesses adopt automation and AI technologies to optimize their operations. This trend bears some resemblance to the way robotics automated manufacturing jobs since the 80s, simultaneously creating jobs in robotics, mechatronics and robotic process automation like how Unmudl has partnered with Amazon to train their employees in maintenance technologies.

AI and Startups

Startups can utilize AI to overcome challenges in hiring by implementing automation in various facets of their operations. From streamlining recruitment processes through AI-powered chatbots and resume analysis to automating administrative tasks with virtual assistants, startups can reduce the dependency on extensive human resources. AI-driven customer support chatbots can handle common queries, while predictive analytics aids in decision-making processes such as market trend predictions. Automated content generation tools alleviate the workload on content creation teams, and AI-driven project management optimizes workflow.

Additionally, startups can benefit from AI-driven onboarding processes, health and safety monitoring, and employee training platforms. By strategically incorporating AI in these areas, startups can not only enhance operational efficiency but also navigate hiring challenges more effectively.

How AI can benefit Unmudl

For Unmudl, using AI is critical and can be used in different ways to optimize our experience, sales, support and other operations.

  1. Analyze individual learner data and preferences, creating personalized learning paths that cater to specific needs and career goals.
  2. Analyze historical data and predict factors that contribute to student success, helping learners and educators identify potential challenges early on.
  3. Automated grading and feedback on assessments, providing timely and consistent evaluations for learners.
  4. Conduct ongoing skill gap analysis, identifying areas where learners may need additional support or where new courses should be developed to address emerging industry needs.
  5. Use AI to adjust the difficulty and pace of content based on individual learner progress, ensuring an optimal and tailored learning experience.
  6. Report on learner performance, providing detailed insights to both learners and educators about strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

How Unmudl Plans to Leverage AI

Tool consolidation is one of the major ways for optimizing internal processes, reducing cost and context-switching for our team, but it has now become absolutely essential for feeding the correct and timely data for your AI.

The first step here is to audit our tech stack. A big part of tool auditing is ensuring interoperability. Can these apps talk to each other and function together? Not only that but are these apps talking to each other in the correct format. Centralizing your knowledge and ensuring connectivity across tools will give AI the broadest context. It is critical to make sure that we have as few apps/tools as possible and a help desk that connects to all relevant areas of our business.

Making sure your systems and data can connect and talk to one another will increase the quality of work that AI can augment and produce. For our team, having our CRM, LMS, enrollments and knowledge base data connected to our help desk is critical to providing excellent customer service. To move towards this effort, we’re first moving all our phone communications from RingCentral to HubSpot. This would allow our CRM to log and store all calls made to our RingCentral phone number, as all calls to the learners are being made via HubSpot.

Our next step is to synchronize all data from our internal portals/dashboards to HubSpot under the contact/company properties. This includes enrollment details, learner’s preferences, their cart information and which webpage they are currently at if they’re logged in.

Having the above information like the current webpage will help AI assist the learner to sail through the enrollment process without having to contact/call our learner support, and hence reducing learner support calls and helping us channel more of our energies towards learner success.

Unmudl's Internal Business Operations

Customer support and content generation is usually where companies first apply generative AI tools like ChatGPT. For Unmudl, optimizing and improving our customer support will be our first action area for implementing generative AI. Our main goal is to reduce customer support queries and only require human intervention in less than 20% of queries. This will help

  1. Improve our availability, response and handle times as 60% of customers define ‘immediate’ response within 10 minutes or less.
  2. Enable us to offer round the clock support for general queries.
  3. Reduce friction and guide the learner’s through their learner journey on Unmudl, this would reduce around 20-30% of our customer support queries.
  4. Enable us to channel the majority of our efforts towards learner success, resulting in more completions, personalized career guidance and providing custom feedback/guidance, which would result in positive outcome for learners.

Colleges

For the college major uses of AI would be in:

  1. Auto-generating SEO friendly content, providing the college administrators a scaffold to work on. This can include course information such as title, description, learning objectives and outcomes.
  1. Choosing the most-relevant Related Occupations, Knowledge Outcomes including creating optimized pathways for credits, credentials, course bundling and certifications.

Employers

AI-based tools can analyze resumes, evaluate candidates’ skills, and predict future job performance. They help reduce hiring biases and make the recruitment process more efficient.

In addition to above, we can utilize AI for better learner segmentation and reach out. This would help the employers utilize their source talent credits more effectively.

As in the college portal, generative AI can also help employers create quick SEO optimized scaffolds for their jobs and selecting the most suitable courses and their enrollees.

Learners

  • One-Click Job Specific Resumes

AI can swiftly generate ATS (Applicant Tracking System) optimized resumes by analyzing job descriptions, formatting content to match ATS requirements, incorporating relevant keywords, and ensuring overall compatibility with the system's parsing algorithms. This results in resumes that are more likely to pass through ATS screenings efficiently.

  • Pre-Assessments, Quizzes and Customized Study Plans

An Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) has the capability to assess a learner's progress and provide immediate feedback, offering suggestions for improvement and highlighting errors in real-time. Additionally, the ITS can analyze the learner's historical performance and recommend new, pertinent, and challenging topics. This form of support plays a crucial role in maintaining learner motivation and engagement. For instance, tools like Quizlet leverage artificial intelligence to create study and learning sets tailored to the individual learner's progress and performance. These sets encompass diverse interactive materials, including flashcards and quizzes, designed to reinforce concepts and enhance retention. This personalized approach to study aids ensures a more effective and engaging learning experience for the user

  • Dynamic Pathways

Enhance student success through early identification and intervention for those at risk of not persisting. Identify and address missing requirements and course bottlenecks to ensure timely graduation for every student. Utilize historical data to comprehend the factors affecting success among specific student groups and strategically plan for the future. Leverage historical and predictive reporting, analyze course demand trends, and employ course load distribution analytics for comprehensive insights.

Our next plan of action

Our goal is to start optimizing the internal processes with AI and later move on with developing our own recommendation systems. Our first move towards this goal is to start consolidating our foundational data and improving app integrations, this would give our AI the correct and timely data to use for its decision making.
