Course Details

Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Virtual Lab is a 40-hour online, self-paced course. In this course, learners develop their troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for biomedical equipment maintenance. They prepare themselves for further education towards a career as a biomedical technician or for working in a hospital, clinic, or other healthcare facility.

The course focuses on seven foundational areas needed for biomedical equipment maintenance: fundamental skills, human anatomy, electrical and electronic systems, mechanical systems, fluid systems, computer and network systems, and communication. After completing this course, learners will be prepared with the foundational knowledge and skills needed for further training towards maintaining biomedical equipment.

The course is aligned with SACA certification, and learners who successfully complete the course will have completed the coursework for several SACA micro-credentials. The course does not provide SACA certification; learners who wish to become certified will need to complete one or more SACA exams.

Biomedical Equipment Maintenance uses content from videos, documents, and Amatrol. Learners can work at their own pace, and a learner who spends 8 hours a week will complete the course in approximately 5 weeks. Learners are assessed by a final quiz on each individual module. Learners need to achieve 80% or higher on each final quiz to successfully complete the course and will have three attempts to pass each quiz.
