Description

This two-course certificate program teaches students with the basic automotive technology knowledge and skills required for employment as a service advisor for both small and large independent garages and dealerships. In the first course, students will learn the different automotive parts, components, major assemblies, vehicle systems and how they function and the required maintenance. Topics also include safety, work ethics, service facilities and federal, state and local laws as they apply to the automotive industry.

The second course provides the student with the skills required for employment as a service advisor. Students will learn about customer service, writing an initial repair order estimating parts and labor costs and how to revise repair estimates in accordance with California State law. Topics also include communications, customer relations, manufacture warranty policies and procedures, returning the vehicle to the customer and follow-up.

This certificate program has a five-week break from 6/5/2021 to 7/11/2021. 

Eligibility Restriction (Pre-Requisite)

Required Skills: 

  • Eighth grade reading level
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
  • Knowledge of general math

San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD). As the largest provider of noncredit education in California, SDCE’s mission is to provide accessible, equitable, and innovative quality education and career training to adult students.
