Course Details

Windows Operating Systems is the first course in the Windows System Administration certificate program, which also includes Server Admin Fundamentals. Subject matter for the course includes the installation, configuration, and management of the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. You will also learn about managing applications, files and folders, devices, and the use of administrative tools and the control panel. Practical topics include user interfaces, user account management, operating system security, and basic network configuration. To that end, the course uses VMware Workstation hypervisors in the lab to create software-based guest computers, called virtual machines.

The Server Admin Fundamentals course includes the installation, configuration, and management of the Windows Server Operating System. Students will learn about server administration tools, Active Directory, account management and security, and server performance troubleshooting. Students will be introduced to network services, web servers, and DNS servers.

2. Demonstrate installation and upgrade of the Windows Operating System
3. Demonstrate the use of administrative tools
4. Demonstrate the use of the control panel
5. Describe the types of user accounts and settings
6. Demonstrate how to secure and share documents
7. Demonstrate connecting and configuring external devices and drivers
8. Demonstrate the installation and management of applications
9. Demonstrate backing up and recovering data

Upon successful completion of the second course, you will be able to:
1. Compare and describe server and desktop operating systems
2. Demonstrate the installation and configuration of the operating system
3. Demonstrate how to modify the operating system using the control panel and
Administrative tools
4. Demonstrate how to modify and configure the file system to provide client access
5. Demonstrate how to modify the network configuration to provide client access
6. Analyze common server and network misconfigurations and apply the appropriate fix
7. Identify and configure common server roles
8. Demonstrate how to create an Active Directory domain
