- Repair and Maintenance: Repair and replace worn/damaged mold and assembly line components, breakdown and diagnose molds for molding defects, perform root cause analysis of part or mold damage, conduct preventative maintenance on customer tooling to ensure optimal performance, reliability and part quality
- Problem Solving: Perform root cause analysis of mold components to identify and resolve issues including premature wear, poor part quality, high defect rates, molding nonconformances, and mold functionality failures
- Inspection and Quality Control: Perform dimensional inspections of plastic and steel components by comparing measurements to 2D engineering drawings, ensuring conformance to the specified quality standards
- Assembly and Fitting: Handing fitting components to class 101 specifications, and adjusting preloads to meet our customer's quality requirements
- May be required to perform other duties not listed above
Essential Skillsets
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models and tooling
- Safe Operation of PIT, Crane & Hoist and other heavy equipment
- Operate and program precision manufacturing equipment such as CNC, Lathe, EDM, Wire EDM, Grinders and other machining equipment
- Operate precision measuring equipment
- Root Cause Diagnosis and Mold Repair
- Program and Setup - Machine path programming and steel setup in manufacturing machines including but not limited to CNC, Lathe, EDM, Wire, laser engraver, grinder and other machines related to the toolmaking procedure.
- Assembly and Fitting - Adjustment of preloads and verification of fit and function of molds, Understanding of tolerances, dimensioning, and precise machining principles
- Mold Cleanings - preventative maintenance cleaning and recommendations for improvement
- Engineering Engagement - Engagement with Process and Tooling Engineers to resolve ongoing production issues and develop improvement strategies
- Inspect components and molding stacks to ensure print and engineering specifications are met
Education and Experience
- Education - High school diploma or GED, Education in machining/toolmaking/manufacturing or toolmaker apprenticeship program or 5+years of toolroom experience diagnosing and repairing tools.
- Toolmaker Apprenticeship programs are recommended
- Machining/manufacturing background
