Course Details

The Carpentry Fast Track consists of four courses. UBCT-107 Basic Safety, Hand & Power Tools, Blueprint Reading and UBCT 105 Professionalism in Service, Construction Math, Basic Rigging are virtual courses, which means you will engage with your instructor during regularly scheduled class time in an online format.  On the start date of your course, login to your MyPima account and click "Access D2L" under QuickLinks.  BCT 145 Carpentry I is hybrid.  Students obtain basic knowledge in the online classroom then demonstrate skills each week in a 4 hour lab.

Course Fees are inclusive of text, laboratory materials and certification tests (NCCER Core Certification and Carpentry I).

After This Course, You Will Be Able To

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe the history of the carpentry trade and the importance of safety in the construction industry.
  2. Explain the terms commonly used in discussing wood and lumber and the different types of fasteners and adhesives.
  3. Demonstrate the proper use of hand, portable power, and stationary power tools.
  4. Demonstrate how to layout and construct different types of framing systems and floor assemblies.
  5. Demonstrate how to construct wall and ceiling framing.
  6. Describe the terms associated and the various types of materials used with roof framing.
  7. Explain the procedures for installing the various types of fixed, sliding, and swinging windows and exterior door

Additional Attendance Information

Student complete online content learning, then 4 hours in the lab each week to demonstrate learning.  Basic Safety, Hand & Power Tools, Blueprint Reading is the first course offered online. Professionalism in Service, Construction Math is the second course online.  Critical Thinking is usually taken at the same time as Safety, this is also an online course. The core course, Carpentry is attended in the lab as an experiential course.
