About the role

The Lab Operations and Facilities Technician provides hands-on laboratory, and site operations support to ensure laboratories operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with EHS and regulatory expectations. The role enables uninterrupted research activities by supporting equipment readiness, lab safety programs, vendor coordination, and day-to-day operational needs.

This position serves as an operational liaison between lab users, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), R&D Engineering Services (RDES), and external service providers.

This is a fully onsite role Monday- Friday in San Diego, CA.

What you'll do

Laboratory Operations & Readiness

Maintain laboratory spaces in a clean, organized, and science-ready condition

Stock and manage laboratory consumables, including receipt, organization, and replenishment

Support chemical inventory management

Perform basic buffer and media preparation (Internal Note - this would be a bonus skill set but not mandatory)

Stock and maintain shared spaces such as kitchens and breakrooms

Equipment & Asset Lifecycle Management

Support fixed asset management and service contracts for laboratory equipment

Support fixed asset management and service contracts for facilities equipment

Schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibrations

Perform basic equipment troubleshooting and routine tasks such as freezer defrosting

Monitor laboratory gas levels and coordinate gas cylinder changes

Vendor & Facilities Coordination

Act as a liaison between lab staff, EHS, Facilities, and other internal departments

Act as a liaison with landlord for facilities requests and repairs

Provide oversight of facility services such as lab and office housekeeping, dry ice supply, waste management including general and hazardous waste and lab coat program,

Provide oversight of GSK owned equipment maintenance including safety equipment maintenance (First Aid, AEDs, etc), portable nitrogen generators, gas supply safety valves etc.

Coordinate with external vendors such as janitorial, lab garments suppliers, dry ice providers, waste management providers, service contractors, and building engineers

Coordinate cost estimates, purchase order creation and invoice approval for third party vendors.

Schedule, escort, and oversee third-party vendors while on site

Provide clear communication and notifications related to vendor activities

Lab Safety, EHS & Compliance

Support site laboratory safety programs and ensure alignment with policies and regulations

Assist EHS with hazardous and biohazardous material management

Provide oversight of the hazardous waste management provider

Maintain PPE inventory and support emergency equipment inspections

Prepare laboratories for audits, inspections, and site tours

Coordination, Documentation & Planning

Coordinate new hire lab workspace setup and onboarding support

Support the creation and maintenance of SOPs, work instructions, and site documentation

Assist with strategic planning for future space needs, lab expansion, and relocations

Leadership Expectations (GSK Behaviors)

Use required PPE and follow safe work practices at all times

Promptly report safety concerns, incidents, or deviations

Support audit readiness and continuous improvement activities

Supports a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate's education, training and experience. The compensation is about $131,000 annual base salary based on experience. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skills, qualifications and experience.
