Orientation to Portfolio Preparation: prior learning assessment

The student will explore the process of demonstrating experience and training equivalent to requirements of courses within a program of study. Includes the types of materials the student will prepare to submit a collection for assessment of prior learning, the role of evaluator and review of course requirements available for prior learning assessment within a program. 

NOTE: This course prepares those with work experience to prove their knowledge through submission of a portfolio to those Colleges/Universities that participate in Prior Learning Assessment.

1. Recognize the stages of portfolio development and College process to earn credit.
2. Identify strengths, challenges and goal-setting toward achievement of standards.
3. Purposefully select work experiences and materials to capture the development of a skill with reflection upon the process that led to development.
4. Demonstrate authentic tasks that capture meaningful application of knowledge of skill by providing certificates or statements from official records.
5. Practice writing to the process of learning, improvement, progress, effort, the process of learning, skill achievement, change over time and mastery.
6. Select course(s) matched to achieved learning objectives and prepare a portfolio for evaluation.
