Electrical Skills 150 applies the fundamentals from ELEC100 to electrical applications found in the electric utility industry. The prerequisite for ELEC 150 is to have successfully completed ELEC100. 

This course is designed to be taken on line. A handbook, “Ugly’s Electrical References”, 2020 Edition ISBN-13:978-1-284-19453-1, is available at the SUNY Broome Bookstore.

The student will be using the Internet to look up different subjects that we will be studying.

It is anticipated that the student will spend 8 - 12 hours each week on the course.

There will be several kinds of work to submit to pass the course. These include homework assignments, quizzes, exams and discussions.

A scientific calculator will be needed to solve circuit problems. After a review of previous circuit concepts, the course will concentrate on single and three phase circuitry and the use of transformers. Electrical power generation and the transmission of electrical energy will be presented along with various issues that have to be considered in this industry.

Basic digital and analog circuitry is introduced including electronic components, amplification, and digital circuitry including logic gates.

Mastering this material will also provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue further education in the power industry. Practice problems and weekly quizzes are used to help the student use and retain the concepts presented.

Eligibility Criteria

The prerequisite for ELEC 150 is to have successfully completed ELEC100.
