Course Details

Currently employed security guards must complete the Eight Hour Annual In Service Training for Security Guards within 12 calendar months from the completion of the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course and annually thereafter. 

After This Course, You Will Be Able To

This course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard.

Topics include:

  • Role of a security guard
  • Legal powers and limitations
  • Emergency situations
  • Communications and public relations
  • Access control
  • Ethics and conduct

In order to receive a certificate of completion, each participant must attend the full eight-hour session. Names of those who successfully complete the course are recorded with the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services for Municipal Police Security Guard Program. 

 

Cancellation Policy: (for Security Guard classes only)

All students will be entitled to a 100% refund prior to the start of instruction and a 50% refund if the cancellation is before the start of the second session. To cancel, call the Continuing Education office at (607)778-5012. To report concerns or complaints about the course, contact Continuing Education or the Division of Criminal Justice Services at (518) 457-2667.

Eligibility

This class is for currently employed security guards that have already completed the 16 hour on-the-job training course and need to complete their annual in service training.
