Course Details
This two-course certificate program is an introduction to the Python programming language for students without prior programming experience. The first course will cover the spectrum of introductory Python programming topics ranging from the essentials of the language, to control statements, functions and modules, working with strings, numbers, and dates and times. Examples and labs used in this course are drawn from diverse areas such as financial data processing, gaming applications, and more. Students will be able to use this knowledge to land entry level positions in fields such as data science, embedded programming, game development, software development, automation, cyber security penetration development, and more.
This final course will introduce you to more advanced Python concepts. Topics covered include data structuring techniques using tuples, lists, and dictionaries; object-oriented programming concepts; and exception handling. Examples and labs used in this course will continue to draw from diverse areas such as financial data processing, gaming applications, and more. You will be able to use this knowledge to land entry-level positions in such fields as data science, embedded programming, game development, software development, automation, cyber security penetration development, and more.

Upon successful completion of the first course, you will be able to:
1. Install and configure Python and its development environment
2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the essentials for working with Python
3. Use control statements to handle iterative and conditional logic
4. Componentize code by utilizing functions and modules
5. Utilize common data types in various capacities
6. Work with data structures
Upon successful completion of the second course, you will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an intermediate understanding of Python
2. Work with data structures, including lists, tuples, and dictionaries
3. Create, update, and delete files and folders on a computer
4. Handle errors and exceptions that may occur
5. Build objects and custom modules using object-oriented concepts
Knowledge Outcomes and Experience
Eligibility
Required Skills:Â
- Possess a 12th grade reading level
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
- Knowledge of math concepts at the 8th grade level
- Computer literacy
